Peacasa Enables CFIA, GMP, HACCP Compliance with Caddy

Understanding the Challenge

Company: Peacasa Snacks

Industry: CPG / Food and Beverage

Problem: Peacasa Snacks, a start-up company based in London, Ontario, producing chickpea chips, encountered challenges in food safety compliance and manufacturing. As a CFIA-licensed facility, they were burdened by extensive paperwork, which hindered their ability to track, sort, and archive crucial documents. Their principal hurdle was optimizing this process for easy information retrieval during audits.

Peacasa is not alone in this challenge. Many CPG start-ups are under increasing pressure to meet safety and traceability regulations while balancing the needs of their growing businesses.

Implementing The Solution for CPG CFIA, HACCP, and GMP compliance

Peacasa Snacks discovered Caddy organically, choosing it for Caddy’s flexibility and cost-effectiveness. The Caddy team demonstrated its ability to configure the software to cater to Peacasa's unique needs.

The Caddy app allowed them to monitor their products and processes in real time, reducing manual paperwork and providing digital access to crucial data. Caddy has enabled Peacasa to have confidence, easy access, and transparency in their food traceability and safety. Using Caddy has proved invaluable for tracking Peacasa’s raw materials from receipt to the finished product, allowing them to monitor their inventory, usage, and customer distribution effectively.

They also began utilizing Caddy for quality assurance, filling out daily checklists, and generating subsequent reports via the system.

Though a newly established company and yet to observe a significant shift in efficiency, Peacasa appreciates the ease of use of the Caddy platform. Victor also commended the customer support team for their swift responses and eagerness to implement changes based on customer feedback.

“Yeah, on several occasions I've reached out to customer support, and I believe I've always gotten an answer within about an hour or at least 90% of the time.” - Victor Delage, COO at Peacasa Snacks

Experiencing the Benefits of Better Traceability Quality Assurance, and Operations Practices

“You can create your custom forms, which is a great feature that Caddy has that not many other companies have. So you can create a custom form and connect it through traceability to a certain lot. So, for example, every morning we'll go to our production line and do a prestart check to ensure all of our machines are clean and do some lab testing on the microorganisms that may remain on the machines. So Caddy allows you to build a form to show that you completed this check before you started creating a lot.”

Within just eight months, Peacasa Snacks has recognized the potential benefits of Caddy in managing its food safety compliance and traceability. Despite being a new company, they see the value of Caddy's features and customer service in simplifying their daily operations and aiding them in meeting compliance standards. They anticipate further enhancements and deeper integration of Caddy into their processes as they continue to grow.

Victor encourages fellow entrepreneurs in the CPG sector to consider Caddy for their compliance requirements. He emphasizes the overwhelming nature of managing the multitude of processes mandated by CFIA. Caddy already has many of these processes in place, considerably lessening the burden of creating them from scratch.

“We were going through tons of paperwork. Our main challenge was keeping track of the paperwork, making it easy to sort and archive, and it was just taking up too much time.

So the challenge we faced was streamlining [our processes] so that when we get audited, we could type a number in for the lot number and figure out where all the information is in one easy click. ”
